November 17, 2008 Washington (dbTechno) - According to the latest reports, 3,800 employees are going to be laid off by the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. The layoffs were approved back on November 12th by the University of Texas Board of Regents. Since Hurricane Ike slammed Texas back on September, there has been a huge amount of loss suffered by the UTMB. This has resulted in the school losing nearly $40 million each month since September. Total damage to the University of Texas Medical Branch from Hurricane Ike is said to have been around $710 million. There are 12,500 employees in total at the medical school, a very large number. The majority of the jobs cut are going to be at the island’s only hospital, John Sealy Hospital. Source: dBTechno
