May 12, 2008 Pittsburgh (dbTechno) - Nearly 35,000 people showed up on Sunday to help raise money for the fight against breast cancer by taking part in the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for Cure. The annual event takes place in Pittsburgh at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park. The Race for Cure consists of both a roughly 3-mile walk or run, as well as a 1-mile speed walk. A parade was also held to pay tribute to thousands who have fought and successfully survived breast cancer. All of those who took part in the event were given pink quilts. Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death among women, behind only lung cancer. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded by Nancy Brinker, to honor her 36-year old sister who died from breast cancer. Source: dBTechno
