May 13 2008 - Results of a new study show that using viagra can be helpful for patients living with muscular dystrophy.
The researchers state that the active ingredient in viagra called sildenafil, is what offers the most protective attributes. The study which was performed by Canadian researchers found that in mice, viagra appeared to protect the heart from a common form of the disease. In the study the mice were given doses of viagra comparable to the doses that men would take to relieve erectile disfunction and it appeared that the drug offered protection to their heart muscle. The researchers state that due to their positive study findings, that it may be possible one day that people with muscular dystrophy maybe able to take the drug to protect their hearts. Pfizer manufactures the drug that is the leading anti-impidence drug sold around the world. The findings have been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
